REALTORS® Care Week 2019

This year, November 18-22 is the inaugural REALTORS® Care Week, led by CREA. Across the country, REALTORS® will be volunteering to help with projects that support their communities and spreading the word using the hashtag #REALTORSCareWeek.

 

Through the REALTORS® Community Foundation, REALTORS® in Edmonton give in many ways: through events, We Care donations, and volunteering. During REALTORS® Care Week, the Association and the Foundation are partnering to offer many opportunities for you to volunteer in the community with charities that have been supported by REALTORS® for years.

Meals on Wheels

Meal Delivery

Get into teams of 2-3; you will get a map and meals to deliver to Meals on Wheels clients in the Edmonton Area. Each route has 5-10 clients.

 

The Foundation has been funding the meal subsidy program for Meals on Wheels for a number of years. Even though they have not raised prices since 1995, over 60% of their clients require support with costs. Having Meals on Wheels allows many people to age in place and live independently for longer. All meals are made in house and accommodated to a variety of medical diet requirements.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore North

Volunteer at ReStore

The ReStores operate as a social enterprise with profits supporting Habitat for Humanity. In addition to supporting the organization, you are helping divert materials from landfills, often get to meet families fulfilling their service hours and learn new skills. Tasks may include: helping customers, organizing, loading/unloading, tidying or stocking shelves.

 

Habitat for Humanity has been in Edmonton since 1991 serving Edmonton and communities in Northern Alberta. Habitat for Humanity eliminates barriers to a better, healthier , more financially stable life. They empower homeowners to achieve the strength, stability and independence needed for a better future for them and their families.In 2018, the Foundation gave $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity and participated in a home build!

 

Hope Mission

Breakfast Service

Help prepare, serve and cleanup breakfast for the clients at Hope Mission.

 

The Hope Mission was founded in 1929 and has continues to serve Albertans today.  Each day over 1000 meals are served and shelter is provided for over 500 men, women and children. There are also specialized services to overcome addiction and a 24/7 rescue van.

Operation Friendship Seniors Society

Lunch Service

Prepare and serve lunch then enjoy it alongside the clients of Operation Friendship’s drop-in centre. Help with cleanup and head out to enjoy the rest of your day.

 

Clients of Operation Friendship are seniors, over age 55. OFSS supports seniors by providing affordable housing facilities, transportation to appointments, and a drop-in centre that provides a safe space for seniors who may be facing homelessness or simply wish to connect with others. There are free meals 7 days a week, flu clinics, foot care, showers, games and a number of organized outings. Through the Foundation, REALTORS® have given over $40,000 to OFSS.

Youth Empowerment Support Services (YESS)

Holiday Decorating

Decorate for Christmas at the Armoury Resource Centre - where youth who access YESS are able to access day services - including the 12 foot Christmas tree!

 

The Foundation has been supporting YESS for a number of years, including  $15,000 in 2019. YESS provides low-barrier shelter, temporary housing and wraparound support for youth ages 15-24 who are experiencing homelessness. Their programs focus on bridging gaps, healing trauma and preventing homelessness.
